Soft sway
Cool breeze
Fresh air
Blue seas
Calm waterSoft sway
Cool breeze
Fresh air
Blue seas
Calm waterYou took my heart
It broke in two
You stole my thoughts
You didn't play fair
My spine still shivers
At what you did
All you left
Was hurt stripped bare
Because of you
I am just numb
No love, no pain
Empty nothing there
Now you've gone
I have banished you
No scars to remain
For me to wear
So I shall wait
For someone to come
With a soul of gold
and a life to share.
Once I saw an old man walking in the woods
He strolled on down a dusty path
With a gait that showed his pain
He trod so very carefully to be sure of every step
As I grew close it was plain to see
That despite his battered skin
This old man had lived a life so full
of adventure, love and fame
His boots were tattered, his jacket torn
A grey hat upon his head
His eyes sparkled with clear blue light
And a smile curled around his lips
He nodded his head and with a grin
He beckoned me to sit
I closed my eyes and listened hard
To all that he did say
As he spoke I was carried away
Across a stormy sea
Where pirates plundered old ghost ships
and had dreams of maidens fair
The fierce hot sun beat down on me
As we stumbled through the desert
where an oasis was a welcome sight
as stars lit up the sky
He took me to the moon and back
Aboard a rocket ship
We saw where man took a giant leap
While the world watched on below
His eyes shone as he told the tales
Of men that he once knew
Of kings and queens and presidents
and all of their affairs
With a voice that whispered quietly
He spoke of endless love,
Of trust that had been snapped in two
and wisdom of the years
Before too long the day had passed
The old man became quite still
He winked at me and then he said
'Your adventures have now begun'
Shallow water ripples
Move out into the lake
Tide laps at my feet
And doesn’t leave a trace
It’s long cold fingers
Press against my bare skin
I drift away, no sense of time
Lost in it’s soothing sound
I thought I saw a pixie
Wading in the stream
I pinched myself to be sure
It wasn’t just a dream
I crept forward on my tippy-toes
And wondered what I’d see
He bowed his head, took off his hat
And placed it in a tree
But before I could get too close
The pixie tumbled in
He got back up with a shout
Then he began to grin
I thought he may have seen my face
But hoped it wasn’t true
He smiled, he laughed, he jumped back in
And swam in water blue
Then pixies came from here abouts
Drawn by all the noise
The girls had fun squealing loud
And chasing all the boys
The revelry had now begun
It lasted into the night
They danced under the clear full moon
Which shone on them with might
Oh what a joy it was to watch
The pixies laugh and sing
The wonderment that they found
In each and every thing
I’m glad I saw a pixie
Wading in the stream
Now I know and I am sure
They are more than just a dream.
There’s a demon on my right shoulder
And an angel on my left
They push and pull all through the night
And never let me rest
He tugs at all my fears and doubts
Then throws them at my feet
She tells me to live with courage
And things will be alright
He taunts and teases with every breath
I do naught but listen
She covers my ears when he begins
And says he is a liar
He laughs right in my face
When things are going tough
She makes me look at her instead
And says I’m doing fine
He shouts out loud and clear
That I just play pretend
She sings to me in her sweet way
‘just you wait and see’
Lost in the land of dreams
Where reality raises it’s head
And hope springs eternal
But no one shares your bed
Lost in the land of dreams
Where wishes do come true
And bills remain unpaid
But there are always thoughts of you
Lost in the land of dreams
Where chores remain undone
And beauty is all around you
But your worries weigh a tonne
Lost in the land of dreams
Where the future shines so bright
And works is still a daily grind
But love lives through the night
Lost in the land of dreams
Where no one calls your phone
And wisdom creeps into your life
But you are still alone
How long can you stay
Lost in the land of dreams
Stopped on the street
A pause to remain
Lost in the thoughts
Of the door up ahead
Lift up the latch
And push open the gate
Notice the trees in the yard
And each flower in the bed
The kitchen is bare
No more meals to be made
No more cakes in the oven
Or the smell of fresh bread
One last drink at the table
The heart of the home
Where comfort was found
And generations were fed
Cupboards are emptied
Of all that they held
Old tattered love letters
Are once again read
Down to the cellar
Where monsters once lived
To scare all the grandkids
And fill them with dread
Up the stairs to the bedroom
They creak and they groan
The carpet is worn
Where others have tread
Smiles light up faces
As photos are pulled
From the rusty cake tin
Found under the bed
The wardrobe is open
Clothes hung up with care
The moth-eaten shawl
Striped blue, green and red
The rooms are all clear
But the last to be packed
Are the pots and the plants
Left in the rickety shed
A lifetime and more
All held in one home
The love will live on
But no more words will be said
A house that is empty
The door closed behind
We have bid our good-byes
All the tears have been shed.
Put pen to paper
Write the words down
A letter of love
For those you hold dear
Put pen to paper
Draw images fine
A picture of hope
For the upcoming year
Put pen to paper
Write the words down
A story of compassion
For all that are near
Put pen to paper
Compose music sweet
As song of joy
For the whole world to hear
Put pen to paper
Write the words down
A poem of life
To bring forth a tear
Put pen to paper
Take thoughts from your mind
Allow them to tell you
There’s nothing to fear.
I wish for faith
to guide me on
towards the place
where light is shone
I wish for life
full and true
of passion gone
and passion new
I wish for fun
for laughter long
adorned with smiles
and cheerful song
I wish for comfort
of a home
to keep me safe
content and warm
I wish for love
to light my days
to fill each one
in every way.
Hopes and dreams
Fade away
They ebb and flow
like night and day
Reality knocks
At your door
Convincing you
You don’t need more
You want to leap
to soar so high
to get your wings
so you can fly
Fear is there
A faithful friend
It makes you trust
It till the end
Clarity comes
It arrives so late
No time is left
For hands of fate
Instincts lost
No faith at all
monotony has
come to call
Hopes and dreams
Don’t fade away
Know I need you
Here to stay
Watching out the window pane
Hear those sounds once again
Memories come flooding in
Of childhood games set to begin
Children playing on the swings
Laughter like a clear bell rings
Spinning on the round-about
Always gives a playful shout
Riding up and down the street
Never worried who you'd meet
Out at dawn, back at dark
Each little thing was such a lark
Hopscotch in the old school yard
Life like this was never hard
Songs and chants to pass the day
Thinking, forever it'd be this way
Always playing hide and seek
Or running down beside the creek
Football on the village green
Champions were always seen
Now it's gone, life moves so fast
Just memories of childhood past
Time has come now to remain
Watching out the window pane.
